Katie and Miller

We left today for our 1st family vacation with Katie. We've been out of town with her visiting family, but this will be our 1st big family vacation with just the 3 of us. We stopped along the way today to visit one of my best friends, Jamie and her baby boy, Miller. He's about 5 weeks older than Katie so they'll be close in age and really good friends too.

Beck' 1st Birthday (and Katie's 1st party to go to)

Katie's cousin, Beck turned 1 year old last week and we went to his birthday party last night. We had so much fun visiting with family. I always love when our family gets together. I haven't seen Beck since Mother's Day and he's grown so much since then. He's such a handsome little boy. Here are some pictures from the party. (Oh yeah, and this is pillow case dress #2 that I made.)
I love these low windows. Katie doesn't look out of ours at home because they're higher than these.I think this is my favorite picture of the night. It took us 10 pictures to get one this good. They were both trying to crawl out of the chair. LOLMemaw was able to pick Katie up and let her sit in her lap. Her arthritis has been hurting her so much lately she hasn't been able to do that in a while. I was so happy to see her able to do pick Katie up. But of coarse Katie was very squirmy and wanted down (like she always does) so she crawled out before I was able to get my camera.

10 Months!

I can't believe we're only 2 months away from Katie's 1st birthday. I love the little girl she's becoming. I should probably go back and read her 9 month update to see what's new since then, but it's 1:00 in the morning, I still Have 2 more posts I want to make, we have an 8 hour drive ahead of us tomorrow (plus all our stops), and limited internet access for the next week in Colorado! So I'll just tell you some of the things she's doing even if they overlap from her 9 month. This month has flewn by and is kind of just a blur. It seems like it was just last week that I was posting 9 month pictures.
Well, she's a pro at crawling now. She's getting really fast and is into EVERYTHING! We put up baby gates to keep her in our living room and pretty much have that room as baby proof as it's going to get. (Thank you Mary for the baby gates. You're a lifesaver!) She still bumps her head into the coffee table or on the end table when she tries to crawl under that, but there's not much we can do about that. Usually her bumps are when she's crawling really fast and looking at the floor so she runs into the side of funiture. LOL
She crawls to me and her Daddy when we call her. That's so convenient with the baby gates now. If I'm ready to feed her and don't want to crawl over the gates to get her, I just call her and comes crawling to me super fast and pulls up on the gate for me to pick her up. So sweet!
She talks to herself and to us all the time. The only new "word" she's saying now is "uh oh." It's kind of smooth and not choppy like we say it, but she's said it right a few times. She says "nananana" all the time. We're not sure if that's her way of saying "no", but it could be. Now that she's crawling, she hears "no" quite a bit. Especially when we're changing her diaper. She cries and tries her hardest to roll over and crawl. The little stinker.
She pulls up on everything and only needs to hold on with 1 hand. She's trying to stand on her own and a few times she's stood for a while without holding on to anything. It's always when she has a toy in her hand so she's focused on that and doesn't realize she's standing all by herself.
She pulls up on anything and everything she can find and walks around whatever she's holding on to really well.
She's finally eating better! She rarely gags on solid foods now. It's just a matter of finding foods she likes. I don't think she trusts me anymore with food because I've made her taste so many things she didn't like. She holds her lips shut as hard as she can. We usually have to trick her to get her to open her mouth for the 1st bite. If she likes it she'll open up for more. She loves spaghetti, asparagus, green beans, all meats, and potatoes. She's even eaten some fruits (pears and apples) this week and liked them!
She lets us know when she's done eating or when she doesn't like what we're feeding her. She swats the spoon away and usually is quicker than me so we go through lots of wet wipes or a couple of wash rags when I feed her.
She's taking really good naps in the morning, but her afternoon nap is really short. Like 30 mintues. I still leave her in there for at least an hour, but she mostly sits up and plays (with her pacifier since there are no toys in there for her to really play with.) She doesn't cry though. She's perfectly content just sitting up and talking to herself.
It's getting harder to get these pictures of her because she wants to play with the bear or crawl out of the chair.
I love her expression here. I'm sure she was talking at the time.
I love everything about this little girl.

My Latest Crafty Projects

The quilt was a kit from Joanns. I love it. We brought it with us for vacation.

This is her 9 month plate. I finally finished 2 days before she turned 10 months. I made a 3 month and 6 month and plan to make a 12 month. I was going to stop after that. I have a wall mounted plate rack in our dining room that has 4 fluer de lis plates on it right now, but when I finish her 4 plates I'm going to put those on there instead. There are still more designs though that I love so I might do like and 18 month one or something.

A Funny New "1st" for Daddy

Katie's finally getting over her 1st diaper rash. She's had it for 3 weeks! We followed the dr's recommendations of several diaper creams/ointments, baking soda soaks daily, lotrimin, and leaving her diaper off a little bit every day. When we do the latter, we put her in her pack n play with some easy to clean plastic toys in case she wets the sheets (which has happened a lot!)
The 2nd night we tried taking her diaper off, I put her in her pack n play and left her with her Daddy while I went to run a quick errand. About 10 minutes after I left, I got a call from Andy. Katie was playing and started saying her version of "uh oh" (something we've been trying to teacher her recently.) Andy didn't think anything of it and just kept repeating her like we usually do to help her learn the word.
When he finally looked up at her, she had pooped in the pack n play and was playing with it! He said it was all over her and she had a handful watching it smoosh through her fingers. Disgusting I know, but too hilarious not to post about.
I was really impressed with Andy though. For a Daddy who literally gags when he changes a poopy diaper, when he had to clean up the worst mess we've had so far, he was great. I got home and she was in her exersaucer completely bathed (not just rinsed off) and he had already cleaned all her toys. All I had to do was wash the sheet and clean off the matress underneath.
If it were me, I probably would've grabbed the camera 1st, but he was focused on the job at hand. HaHa
We learnd our lesson. Even though she's "safe" in her pack n play, we still need to watch her. lol

Pool Time

I made my 1st pillow case dress today. It was so easy and quick. I made the whole thing start to finish while Katie took a nap this afternoon. Now I'm going to try to make bloomers to match. There's 1 new thing on those for me to figure out so we'll see how that goes. I have 3 more to make this week then I'll post pictures of all of them. This is the one I made today. It's not as long as it looks. She's bending her legs in the picture.

Fun, Fun, Fun

I think 6-12 months is such a fun age. Before having Katie I didn't really know what to do with kids younger than about 3 or 4 years old but having your own you learn as you go.

I remember when she was about 2 months old Andy said, "When is she going to start doing 'stuff'?" I said, "but she is doing 'stuff.' She looks at us and recognizes us, she makes noises..." But now, she really does do "stuff"! I think I texted Andy about 10 times yesterday... stuff Katie was doing.

It's so much fun to see her explore all over the place and to see her choose a favorite toy out of her toybox. I read the book she's holding to her last night. She loves the texture I guess but hasn't hardly put it down since she discovered it.

The best is when she can go anywhere in the room or play with any number of toys, but she decides to crawl over to me, climb up on me, and give me a great big cuddle hug! I love my little "cuddle bug" and hope she stays that way. I'm having so much fun with her.

We can now add yet another fruit she doesn't like. Blueberries. She did finish them, but it took some work. She loves every vegetable she's tried (good girl), but the only fruit she really likes is avocado. And she's tried a LOT of fruits now.
I've been playing around with sewing too. This bib was my latest "experiment." I think it turned out pretty well. I saw one sort of like this on another blog I follow and thought it was too cute. And those hearts were the 1st time I've ever "appliqued" anything with my machine. I'm trying to get the confidence to put some stuff on ETSY and see what happens. I just don't want to sell something then have the buyer complain that it's not good enough quality or something. For now though, I'm just having fun experimenting and teaching myself how to sew (with lots of questions for my sister in law and mother in law.)

Time for the Baby Gates

We've started looking for baby gates now that Katie's started crawling, but so far her crawling has stayed at a minimum. She pretty much stays in her one area and crawls to a toy she wants or to a piece of furniture to pull up on. She crawls to the dogs too, but usually not far. Not anymore!

As I was working on my last blog post, Katie was right in front of me on the floor playing with her toys. I looked up and saw her little toes going behind the recliner and down the hall. So I did what any blogging video and photo crazed mom would do... I grabbed the camera and followed her and this is what I found...
It's really funny because Daisy has "stalked" Katie since the day we brought her home from the hospital. We always joke about the day that Daisy regrets that because Katie will be following her around instead. And that day is here. Now that Katie can crawl towards Daisy, Daisy is scared of her. She scoots back and whimpers. HaHa It's payback time!

New Foods and 4th of July

Well, we started tying solid foods with Katie and she does NOT like solids! We tried one tiny bite of banana and one tiny bite of plum. With both of them, she gagged then threw it up. Ha! I guess she's not totally ready for solids yet. I'm glad though. I already have so much pureed foods in the freezer for her and now I still get to use all of that.
We tried the sweet potato flavor of the gerber graduates "puff" cereal stuff. She doesn't like those either, but she'll at least swallow those and keep it down. So we're taking it slow. Still doing purees and giving her just a couple of cereal bites with lunch and dinner.
We had a great 4th of July. Andy's family came to visit us. Mimi (Andy's mom) made a really cute 4th of July tutu for Katie. We had fun taking pictures. It's a lot harder now though because she wants to crawl everywhere and won't just sit in one spot.
In the background of this one you can see the awesome toybox Mimi brought for her. It fits perfect between the pack n play and fireplace. Now we can keep all of her living room toys in there instead of having 3 baskets all over the room!
Saturday night we walked to the end of our street for fireworks. They were lighting the city fireworks less than a half mile from our house so we were able to see them really well. Katie was totally fascinated with them (even though they didn't start until 10:15!)
On Monday we got to go hang out with Aunt Mindy, Memaw, and Papaw. It was so nice to see them. But I didn't get any pictures on that day.

9 Month Update

Katie had her 9 month check up today and it went really well. She weighs 18 lbs 5 oz and is 27 inches long. That puts her in the 50th percentile for both. Her dr said she's doing great developmentally and with growth. Our next step to work on with her is speech development. Now that she's starting to repeat sounds and say words, it's time to start pointing at things and naming them to develop her vocabulary.
She's tried tons of new fruits and vegetables. She loves all her veggies but the only fruits she likes are plums and avocados and she sort of likes pears. Now we get to start giving her whatever we eat as long as it's soft for her. No more purees! (But I've made and frozen a LOT of fruits and veggies for her already so we'll do a mixture of purees and solids until those are all gone.) Andy's off tomorrow so we'll start the solids tomorrow for lunch so he can be here for that too.

Katie's been pulling up on everything! (Even the dogs.) Daisy has stalked Katie since she was born. Now that Katie is crawling, she's started chasing Daisy. All of a sudden, Daisy is scared of Katie. She wimpers and backs away, then Katie sits, turns around, and goes after her again. Bailey will stay put and let her pet him. We're working on actually petting and not grabbing his fur. :)
This week was the 1st time she started pulling up then letting go and trying to stand on her own. She only stands for about 1-2 seconds before falling over, but for 1st time parents, we are so proud of her!

She's getting harder to take care of. Now that she's crawling and pulling up, she gets into a lot more. She's also starting to have a little separation anxiety so she gets upset if mommy or daddy leave the room.
She sleeps on her tummy now always, but I guess she can't stay comfortable that way all night because she wakes up a couple of times each night, fusses for a little bit, sits up, crawls around her crib, then lays back down and goes back to sleep.
She takes after her daddy more and more every day. She does NOT like to sleep! I put her in her pack n play for a nap yesterday because she was cranky and I could tell she was sleepy. She stayed in there for 30 minutes crying then got really quiet all of a sudden. I looked over at her and she had put her pacifier in her mouth (upside down) and fell asleep sitting up... playing. So cute. She did the same thing earlier this week in her crib. But that time she fell forward (laying on her legs) and slept for a while like that.
Lots of "sleeping" pictures I know, but I think sleeping babies are so precious.

It's so much fun to see her personality develop as she grows.

Going to the Chapel...

Andy was an usher for his friend's wedding last weekend in Houston. Katie did great. He was really good through the service and had lots of fun at the reception. She loved the music and would shake her hips and bend her knees like she was dancing. So cute! She was such a trooper too. We didn't get in until 11:00 and she was sleepy but happy the whole time.
My handsome hubby!

One thing we didn't get a picture of was the 3 of us dancing. They had a dance at the reception for all married couples so we took her out there with us. So sweet but of coarse neither one of us was available to take the picture.

My cousins were sweet enough to let us stay at their house and we got to meet them and my aunt for breakfast before leaving town. It was really nice to see Ryan, Reid, and Aunt Kitty.
Katie did some "driving" too after breakfast!
