Trips and Dogs

We got to visit my parents for a whole week after school was out. We had a great time. That's when she started saying "mama", started pulling up, sitting on her own from laying on her tummy, and worked a lot on crawling. It was a big week for her.I had to put this short clip on here too. Last night I gave out dogs a bath. We used to bathe them in the tub, but it was such a hassle getting them in and out of the tub and of coarse they would shake and get water all over the bathroon. So now we bathe them outside with the water hose when it's warm out. Daisy and Chelsea are ok with it. They just sand there and let you spray them down and bathe them. But Bailey hates it! He tries to attack the water. We have to tie them to our table outside so they don't run off. Watching Bailey try to bite the water was so funny I couldn't resist taking video to share on the blog.

For those of you who know Bailey... very well, you know he's great at acting super vicious, but really he's a really sweet dog. He's my baby. I've had him for 13 years!

Swim, Swim, Swim and Friends

Katie started swim classes last week. We really don't do anything that I couldn't do on my own at our neighborhood pool, but it's fun anyway. One of my friends and her little boy are in the class with us and that's fun. If we weren't taking the class, I probably wouldn't be out there with her in the pool every day either and probably wouldn't have had the courage to dunk her completely under water. Lauren, Logan, Katie, Me

She looks like a little Beach Baby.
She wasn't sure what to think of the water for the 1st few days. She wasn't fussy or anything, but stayed kind of frozen. If I picked her up out of the water or put her on her back or tummy, she would always keep her legs bent like she was sitting.

She's getting more comfortable in the water and will reach for her toys while I'm holding her and when I put her on her tummy. She's starting to kick her legs too when I hold her on her tummy and let her "swim" to get her toy or back and forth with me and her teacher or me and daddy.

I'm most proud though that she let me dunk her the 1st day and was OK with it. We even sang The Wheels on the Bus with a verse of the babies on the bus go up and down... and dunked her 3 times in a row and she was perfectly fine with that! She's starting to like "jumping" off the side and going under.

The pool at her swim classes is a saltwater pool and I guess she thinks that tastes funny because when she goes under water, she comes up sticking her tongue out over and over again. She's my little froggy.
Now we're working on blowing bubbles in the water. She's done it a few times, but I can't get her to do it consistently.
Saturday we went to our neighborhood pool with Andy to show him how well she does in the pool. Here's some video of her "jumping" and going under water.

She's had a couple of play dates this week too while I went to some teacher workshops. When she went to play with Audrey, she slept the whole time. 3 hours! That was after her 1st swim class last week. She's had 2 play dates with Logan after our swim classes and she's stayed up more for those so they were able to play a little bit. Aren't they cute!

9 month update

Katie will be 9 months in just 2 days. My how the time flies. She's so much fun and growing by leaps and bounds! Just in the last 2-3 weeks she's been doing so much.

~Last Monday she clapped with open hands for the first time and finally rolled from her back to her tummy. She's been rolling from her tummy to her back for several months now, she's rolled from her back to her side and from her side to her tummy many times, but never all the way from her back to tummy until last week.

Last night for the first time she was sleeping on her back as usual, but woke up crying and when I went to check on her she had rolled over to her tummy and went back to sleep that way. She's done that a couple of times today too for her naps.
~She goes from laying on her back to sitting. I put her down for a nap a few days ago and apparently she wasn't sleepy. She was crying for about 10 minutes and when I went in to check on her, she was sitting in her crib. So cute.

~She's still trying to crawl. I don't know if I would say she's crawling yet, but she almost does the "army crawl." She squirms but can make it pretty far across the floor that way to get to whatever she wants. UPDATE... I typed all this last night before posting and tonight she DID crawl! I addeed a little to the end of the video clip of her crawling and pulling up tonight!

~She's pulling up really well. She especially loves to stand hugging her Daddy's leg. ~A couple of weeks ago she started saying "ma ma ma ma." She was already saying "ba ba ba ba" and "da da da da." Now I think we're going to work on "night night" next because she says the "n" sound a lot.

~When she is sleepy, she pulls her arm up by her face, turns and sucks on her arm. That's how she falls asleep. She's done that for months but I love it and dont' know if I've ever posted anything about it. ~Something else she's done for a while but I never posted about is how she loves to chew on her toes, especially when I'm changing her diaper.~She's getting too big for her bouncer. I put her in here a couple of days ago with a Baby Einstein DVD on so I could get dressed, but when she dropped her toy, this is what happened. :)

Just for Fun

Crazy Hair Day
Twice in one day...
I picked Katie up from the church nursery Sunday and this is how I found her. She had been laying on the floor playing away and wore herself out.
Then later that afternoon, I put her on the floor to play and got in bed to try to take a nap. Katie was talking and making all her little noises she loves to make then all of a sudden she was quiet. I looked down and here she was... wore herself out playing again. Crazy girl.
Katie's new toy. Andy thought it would be funny to let her hold it by the tag in her mouth. Silly Daddy!

Wedding Bliss

A couple that Andy plays soccer with got married last weekend. They had a beautiful outdoor wedding on a golf course. Katie was great before the ceremony, but of coarse as soon as the ceremony started, Katie decided she wanted to talk. Being outside, it's not like I could just get up and walk out. I at least walked away with her until the end. I guess nobody heard her because when the ceremony was over, the lady in front of us told us how good Katie was during the wedding. Apparently she didn't know that was because I had walked away with her. Ha.
She had lots of fun playing with Daddy. He started leaning her back in his lap and turning her upside down. She loved it so much, she started tilting her head back to let him know she was ready to go again. It was so adorable.

Rangers, Rangers, and More Rangers

But she saw her 1st fireworks show after the game on Friday night. They were a lot louder than I expected them to be. Luckily I brought cotton to put in her ears and then we still covered her ears up with our hands for most of the time. She was fine though and enjoyed all the lights from the fireworks.
Before the game Saturday, Katie got to see her 1st concert. That wasn't loud at all and she enjoyed that too. It was Casting Crowns. One of my favotire groups. Awesome concert. Josh Hamilton shared a little bit of his story too. He's an amazing person. Not to mention a great baseball player for the Rangers. :)
I had to put this one on here too. I fed her squash at the game and she leaned forward right into her spoon! What a mess!

8 months (and a couple of weeks)

I forgot to post when Katie turned 8 months so this is a little late. She's growing so fast. I realized a few weeks ago that she's not a newborn anymore. She's growing so fast. She's definitely got her own personality that we can see and is doing so much.
She's trying to talk and imitates sounds we make. She LOVES to hear herself make noises! She laughs a lot now and we've discovered how to make her laugh. She loves to be tickled on her tummy and playing "peek a boo" with a blankie over her face.
She's getting so close to crawling a pulling herself up to standing. I need to put some things in our living room for her to pull up on. Right now, there's not anything really good in there for her to practice pulling up on. Mostly she tries pulling up on me either when I'm laying on the floor with her or if I'm sitting then she'll grab my shirt to pull up on.
Look at that red hair. It seems to get redder every day! That's from her Daddy.

I don't know her weight and height this month. She goes back for her 9 month the first week of July so she'll be a couple of weeks late on that too. Last time we took her in she was 6 months and 2 weeks and she weighed 16 lbs 10 oz.
I forgot to post this for her 7 month, but another really cute thing she does is grab at your face (and jewelery!) She's so fascinated with facial features now, especially your mouth and teeth. If your mouth is within reach of her, she'll have her hands in there grabbing at your teeth in no time at all. We're still waiting on her teeth to come in. I was 6 months old and Andy was 9 months old when he got his 1st tooth and she's 8 1/2 now. It looks like she's going to take after her Daddy on this one too.
