Home Sweet Home

Hannah in her "going home" dress.  This was one of my dresses when I was a baby.  (Or at least I think it was.)  Memaw found it at home after Katie was too big to wear it so I'm glad we have another girl so Hannah can wear it.

We were so excited to bring Hannah home.  It was definitely an adjustment, but she's doing great.  For about the 1st week or 2 she would "cluster feed" at night.  When it was bedtime, she would eat, sleep for about 10 minutes, then wake up crying wanting to eat again.  Because she was jaundice, I would nurse her every time she woke up crying but after about an hour to an hour and a half she would finally sleep for 3-4 hours between the next 2 feedings.

These are pictures from our 1st week home.

She loves sleeping on her side.

Her 1st bottle...

Little feet

So peaceful.  She really enjoyed the swing for about 3 days.  We can't get her to stay in it now without crying.  I think maybe because she has to lay on her back in there.  She's happiest when we just let her lay on her side in her bassinet or little portable bed.

Lauren brought Katie a gift.  She loves her new color wonder paint!

"Going for a ride" on the choo choo train while shopping.

Aunt Becky brought Katie this purse.  She didn't put it down for 2-3 days!  She got her some bracelets too.  Katie likes to keep the bracelets in her monkey purse when she's not wearing them.

Say Cheese!

She was posing for a picture and asked me to get one of her in the tunnel.  :)

Yea!  Tax season is over and Aunt Becky got to come in town and meet Hannah!

I love how she flexed her feet.  She  already doesn't do that as much as she did her 1st week.

Katie found a cozy little place to play with her toys.

Her new water table.  So much fun.

We Love Visitors!

We had lots of visitors in the hospital and more since then.  Here are some pics from our visitors at the hospital...

Poor Papaw had been sick so he wasn't able to hold Hannah, but I finally got him to stand by Memaw and Hannah so I could get a picture with him too.

Introducing Hannah Grace!

On Friday, April 15 we met our newest little angel, Hannah Grace.  She was born at 4:46pm weighing in at 7 lbs 15.5 oz and 19 inches.  (Katie was born at 4:56pm, 7 lbs 14 oz, 20 inches).  :)

I love this picture but it was taken on Andy's phone and I got it off of his facebook page so I can't make it any bigger.

Our 1st family picture!

I was 39 weeks pregnant and we had an induction scheduled.  Everything went great.  We started the pitocin at 8:00am and the waiting began.  We waited and waited and I thought she would never come.  We started the epidural a little before noon.  This time I felt like maybe there was more medicine in the epidural than with Katie or something.  I was feeling it even in my arms and was very week.  But that's better than not having the meds, right?

Texting and playing games on the iphone while waiting...

This delivery was much easier than Katie.  With Katie I started pushing around 2:00 or 2:30 I think and she was born at 4:56.  When I didn't start pushing with Hannah until 4:30, I thought we would be there a long time.  Nope!  4:46 Hannah was born!  15 minutes was way better than over 2 hours!

And the wait is over!  This was my 1st time to hold my little angel.  You can see some of her pretty hair.  I couldn't wait for her to get all cleaned up and bathed so I could see the color a little better.

Just after birth...

We wondered if Hannah would have some red in her hair, but I was very surprised to see how light her hair is.  It's hard to tell how red it will be but she definitely has some red in her hair!

Hannah's 1st bath...
All cleaned up and wide awake...

This was the 1st time I unswaddled her to change her diaper the day after she was born.  The nursery had done that for me the night she was born.  She was so tiny!

Like Katie, Hannah was a little jaundice when we left the hospital on Sunday.  I guess Katie's jaundice was worse than Hannah's because we had to go in every day for the 1st 3 days I think to have Katie's heel pricked to check her billiruben (sp?) levels.  Hannah's billiruben was at 9 when we left the hospital and we just followed up with her dr yesterday and her levels had gone up to 11 but that's still in the very "low risk" range.  No heel pricking and the doctor doesn't need to see us again until her 2 week check up.

We love Dr. Ricks.  He delivered Katie too.

She lost about 7% of her weight in the hospital so she was down to 7 lbs 6 oz when we left.  That was the same at her dr appointment yesterday but Dr. G said that's good and she should start gaining weight and the billiruben levels should start to go down now.

Daddy just chillin' with Hannah.

I'm nursing Hannah and she's doing great so far.  It took Katie about 2 weeks to catch on and we also had to supplement with bottles to make sure she was getting enough milk.  Hannah has nursed well since the 1st time we tried after she was born.  I am starting to give her bottles sometimes so Katie can help.  She's not real crazy about the bottle yet, but she's only had 3 of them so far.
Katie LOVES being a big sister!  She mostly carries on as usual and plays by herself, but has asked several times to hold Hannah.  She likes to help give Hannah bottles and started bringing me diapers and wet wipes this morning to help.  When Hannah cries, she says "It's OK Hannah."  She likes to pat or rub Hannah's back and head and she loves giving Hannah kisses.  She likes to try to swing Hannah in her baby swing.  We're still teaching her that the swing works by itself and Katie doesn't need to manually swing Hannah as high as she can.  :)  On her way upstairs for a nap today, Katie said "I want to give Hannah kisses."  She ran over to Hannah in her swing and gave her the sweetest kiss on her forehead.  She's so sweet and gentle with her.  I can't wait until Hannah is older and the girls can play together.  They are going to be best friends, I just know it.

On her way to the hospital to meet Baby Hannah.  She was so excited!

Katie walking down the hospital hallway with Daddy to meet her little sister for the 1st time.
Katie playing with her new "puter" (computer) and camera... her big sister gift that she got at the hospital when she met Hannah for the 1st time.

Because Hannah was nursing and sleeping so well in the hospital, I forgot how that changes a few days after birth.  She's still doing well, but instead of nursing 10-35 minutes every 3 hours, now she's nursing 10-20 minutes every 2 hours (mostly.)  Until her jaundice is gone, I'm feeding her as often as she wants.  We'll work on spreading those feedings out later.  I'm not worried about that.  She's got her days and nights mixed up.  Slept all day yesterday then was awake until about 3:00 this morning!  As soon as I hold her she stops crying, but when I lay her down on her back to sleep she gets upset.  She is NOT a back sleeper!  If she's not swaddled, as soon as I lay her on her back, she rolls over on her side and is much happier that way.  She can't roll on her side as easily though when she's swaddled.  After several attempts to get Hannah to sleep last night, I finally laid her a little bit tilted on her side and propped up the end of her bassinet under her head so she wasn't laying flat on her back and she slept great after that.

Katie's 1st time to hold Hannah.  I love it!

Taking care of a baby is so much easier the 2nd time around but now the challenge is balancing my time between my 2 girls.  I wish I could spend a lot more time with Katie.  Even when Andy offers, I usually bathe Katie and put her to bed just because I love to do that.  We sit in bed and read books.  We give night night hugs and kisses.  I tuck her in.  We say our night night prayers.  We turn on her lullabye music.  And then we say "Sweet dreams.  Sleep tight.  Don't let the bed bugs bite."  This is one of my favorite times of the day and I'm having to let Andy help with that more now.  I feel very guilty at times like I'm neglecting Katie but Hannah just requires a lot of time right now.  On the other hand, I would love to just hold Hannah all day long, but can't because I want to spend time with Katie too.  It is definitely a juggling act that will take time to adjust too.  I know it will get easier as we get into a routine.  That's the joy of the 2nd baby... I know it's not this busy and exhausting forever!

Such a sweet big sister! I'm so proud of our big girl!

The staff at our hospital was awesome!  Katie was very interested in my IV and hospital bracelets.  I told her the IV was my medicine and told her the bracelets were to make sure the doctors know who I am.  The nurse gave Katie a hospital bracelet just like mine and wrote "Big Sister" on it.  She was so happy to have one like Mommy but she kept calling it her medicine.  LOL

Some special things I've seen in Hannah so far... She's got the cutest dimple in her chin.  Today we found a tiny little freckle under her left eye.  She has a little bump on her left cheek (not sure what it is and if that will stay or not).  Her hair is beautiful, looks like a light brown/blonde with red in it.  She loves to stay curled up in a little ball and flex her feet.  She flexes her feet back so far her toes almost touch her shin.  She likes to sleep on her side and likes to be held tummy to tummy or with her head on your shoulder.  She does not like the pacifier but tries to put her hands in her mouth.  She doesn't keep them there long though.  I guess she's still trying to figure that out.

We absolutely love our new little bundle of joy and watching our Katiebug be such a good big sister!
