Stop and Smell the Roses

Sweet Daddy picked a couple of roses out of our garden for Katie.

Fun Inside

Despite the few cool days, it's still been pretty hot most days so we've played inside a lot lately.

Playing with Daddy.  He's always good at making her laugh.

One of her favorite things to do is to take out her farm flash cards and put them back in the box.  She will do this for a pretty long time and be totally happy.

Dancing!

I saw her playing with some of these at school one day when I picked her up and remembered I had some stored away in a closet at school from my kindergarten teaching days!

Petting Daddy's deer

Andy was flipping channels and stopped on MTV for me to watch Justin Bieber perform "Baby".  After he turned the channel, Katie kept singing "Baby, baby, baby, OH!"

Playin' Around the House

We've had a few cool days and have had fun playing outside on those cooler days.

Bailey!  Katie loves to chase Bailey!

She finally learned how to crawl down off of the patio.

She loves her cozy coop but prefers to push it around.

Rainbow, Rainbow

Katie loves rainbows!  It's hard to see here but there was a really pretty double rainbow at our house after one of our recent rains.

Having fun splashing in the rainwater.

One Last Swim

We went to the neighborhood pool a couple of weeks ago.  Now that school has started up and our weekends are pretty busy I think that was probably our last swim for this summer.

She wanted to push the stroller home...

but then she got tired and decided to ride in it.

Big Bug Bite!

Well, we discovered that either Katie is allergic to mosquito bites or her skin is just very sensitive because she's so little still.

On Meet the Teacher day (Friday) Andy called me and told me he was going to need to take Katie to the doctor.  When he got her up in the morning this is what she looked like.

The doctor sent her to the ER, since it was her eye, to make sure there wasn't anything going on beneath the surface.  I met Andy and Katie up at the ER and this is how she looked.  Eye completely swollen shut.
They determined that it was only a surface inflamation with no infection and sent us home with a little medicine.  As I was getting her ready for bed and brushing her teeth I saw a mosquito bite on her right eye.  Within minutes it started swelling.  Within 30 minutes it was almost swollen shut and when she woke up Saturday morning both eyes were swollen almost completely shut.

Bless her little heart.  She was such a trooper.  Didn't complain much, just occasionally rubbed her eyes and said, "Eye hurt.  Eye itch."

The left eye was much better by the time she went to bed Saturday night and her right eye was good by Monday morning.  What are the odds that she would get a mosquito bite on both eyes 2 nights in a row!  But apparently that's what happened.

Gatti Town

Last time we went to GattiTown we had lots of fun.  Katie's finally old enough to play some of the games.

Check out all of her "loot" she got with her tickets!

What's New with Katie?

It's been a while since I've posted an update on all the fun things Katie's doing now so here it goes...

Late last spring Katie started singing her ABCs (or "ABCDEFG" as she calls it.)  She sings them all the time in the car, when she eats, and while she's playing.  But if we ask her to sing or if she sees the video camera, she won't do it.

She's also learned to sing "Jesus Loves Me" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" all by herself and likes to sing along to "The Wheels on the Bus" (she calls it "Wheels"), "Itsy Bitsy Spider" ("Spider"), Barney, and "Old MacDonald" ("EIEIO").  She's starting to learn more songs too.

When she eats lunch or dinner she helps me say her blessing.

I finally got video!  It's kind of long.  I had to set the camera on the counter, start recording, then I walked away from the camera and started cooking while I got her to sing.  She had no idea I was taping her.  :)

She counts to 10 (in English) and today she said "quatro", "cinqo", and "ocho".  I guess they're counting in spanish at school too.

She makes a really cute surprised face.

Sometimes she'll smile when I ask her to.

She's sort of starting to potty train.  We're not in any big hurry so we're not pushing it, but occasionally we'll sit her on the potty and see what happens.  She's told us about 7 times when she needed to go and then used the potty.  She started back at school this past week and even though she won't be 2 years old for another month, they started her in the 2 year old classroom.  Part of their curriculum is potty training so they let her sit on the potty several times there and she's gone in the potty once there.

She's learning colors and can sometimes tell us her colors, but not consistently yet.  She loves purple and most of the time that's her 1st answer when we ask her what color something is.  She's getting better and better at naming colors correctly every day.

She's talking really good.  Saying sentences, answering questions, and communicating with us.  It's nice now that she can tell us what she wants or needs.  A few weeks ago she's had an allergic reaction to a bug bite or something and both of her eyes swelled completely shut!  (I'll post about all that later.)  But she was able to tell us "eye hurt" and "itchy" to let us know when they were bothering her.

She helps us pick up her toys most nights before she goes to bed and helps me put her laundry away.  She knows what dresser drawer her shorts, swimsuits, and bloomers go in and she puts those away for me.

She's still not a big sleeper.  She sleeps great through the night and when she gets up she grabs some books off of her bedside table to look at in her crib.  She's totally content looking at her books and playing with her stuffed animals until we get her out of bed.  She doesn't like to nap though.  On a good day she'll nap 2-3 hours, but more often she sleeps about an hour or just a little more.

She LOVES school, reading, Elmo, Dora, and cheese!

Her favorite thing to play with is the cups and lids from her kitchen set.  She unstacks and restacks them.  She lines them up in a row on the coffee table and then stacks them back up.

She's becoming more interested in her baby dolls too.  She gives them hugs and kisses and walks them around in their stroller.

She sleeps with her taggie and paci every night and still loves her Boppo (the stuffed hippo Andy got her at the hospital when she was born) and her Lamb.  When we get her up in the morning, we tell her to put her paci and taggie in her crib and she throws them in no problem and leaves them there until she goes back to sleep in tehre.

At 23 months old she weighed 23 pounds at the ER.

When she takes her bath, she loves for me to leave the water on and she uses her cup that I rinse her hair with to rinse herself off.  She loves taking baths!

She's starting to recognize her school friends by name.  When I pick her up from school she says, "Bye bye friends.  Bye Bye teachers." and occasionally says "Bye bye Care" (Claire) and "Bye bye Ian" (Ethan).

At church in August they were learning that "God gives us friends."  Now she says "God gives friends" all the time.  When we ask her "Who made you?" (or mommy, daddy, animals, etc) she answers "God!"

When we tell her to close her eyes, she squeezes them shut real tight.

She recognizes some of her favorite books and will pick them up, bring them to me, and tell me the name of the book.  Some of her favorites are her Storytime Nursery Rhyme BIBLE, The Very Busy Spider, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, We're Goin On A Bear Hunt, Barnyard Dance, and Bubbles Bubbles.  On some of them (pattern books) she will finish the sentences for me as I read to her.  She LOVES to look at books and for me (or anyone) to read to her.

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but that's all I can think of for now.
