And we're Off!

We're headed for the mountains! We made it halfway to Colorado today and will finish the drive tomorrow. I can't wait to get there. The highs are in the low 80s and Andy's parents (who have already been there for a week) said it's been getting down to the upper 30s at night! WOW, what a change from the 100 degree heat we've been in. We're going to be camping and with me being almost 6 months pregnant it will be an interesting trip.

We brought all 3 dogs with us and we're picking Andy's sister up while we're stopping through Amarillo. So tomorrow I'll be riding for about 7 hours in the backseat of Andy's truck, prego, with 3 dogs! I was actually very comfortable today. I told Andy I think it was the most comfortable and easy trip we've ever made together. Amazingly I didn't get carsick, even without dramamine. I don't know if it was the stopping every hour and a half to get out and stretch like the doctor said to do or if it's the maternity belt I've been wearing, but I never got uncomfortable at all! Hopefully tomorrow's drive will be just as nice.

Once we're in Colorado, we'll be camping in a pop-up trailer. I've never been in one of those before but I'm really excited! We figured with me pregnant it wouldn't be as much fun to stay in a tent like we did last year. The pop-up will be much better. I think it's supposed to have 2 queen size beds... with regular matresses! Not nice good thick ones of coarse, but I'm sure they will be a step up from our big air matress that seems to lose air no matter how much you blow it up. I remember last year constantly just rolling to the middle of the matress all night.

My biggest concern is having to get up every 2-3 hours all night to go to the bathroom. There's not a bathroom in the pop-up. But there is a real bathroom (not trees) at the RV park we're staying at and I think our spot is right by it. But still I'll have to get up and walk out in the cold all night to go. But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

We're going to do lots of fishing and just relaxing in the nice cool mountain weather! Andy's mom said there are spots just on the side of the road on the pass up to the ski resort where there is still snow! Almost in July! We won't be able to take any 4 wheel drive trails which will also rule out one of our favorite places to fish. It's at the top of a mountain so there's usually still snow up there when we go. And with there being snow further down the mountain this year than usual, I'm sure there's lots up there. Oh well, it's not like I've never seen snow before.

We're supposed to have internet access at the RV park but I don't think it's very good. I'll try to post pictures and updates throughout the trip as much as I can. Check back over the next week for updates.

Memaw's Birthday

My mom's birthday was last week and all her kids and their spouses and her grandkids went in together and got her a laptop. Everytime we all go home for holidays there's always someone on the computer and when we all leave there's always something changed on her computer... the setup in her Microsoft Word documents, something downloaded from the internet, etc. So we got her a laptop all her own. (To watch the video, double-click on the pictures.)

She was so excited when she opened it. At first she wasn't sure what it was and when she realized it was a computer she was so excited she cried. Now you know where I get my emotional side from! HaHa. Anyway it was very sweet. She came in town this weekend and brought her computer with her. She's loving having it and being able to take it with her everywhere she goes to use anytime she wants.

Time for a Haircut!

Well, with our trip to Colorado coming up in just 6 days it's time to shave Chelsea and Daisy so they don't shed all over the truck. I tried to do it on my own today and it didn't work out as well as it usually does. Chelsea always squirms a lot, but I can usually get her completely shaved. But today they just were NOT going to cooperate. Even Daisy was squirming too much for me to hold still! I think maybe it was the heat. They didn't want to say outside.
Poor things. They look terrible now. You can see I got Chelsea's back shaved and half of her tail, but I didn't get her neck at all and she has a little lion's tail. And the line across the top of her leg is the line where I wasn't able to shave anymore. Daisy has hairy patches all over her tummy, neck, and legs. The pictures look much better than the dogs really do. They look pitiful.
I'm going to have to let Andy finish them tomorrow. They won't even come to me right now. Chelsea just runs from me if I call her. I think she's a little upset with me.

Baby Update

I had an appointment today and everything was good. I got to hear the heartbeat. That's always fun. And he measured my stomach too. He said the baby is measuring kind of big, but I'm wondering how he knows that's the baby measuring big and not just my stomach. If I'm gaining too much weight, my stomach would get bigger and make it seem like the baby's big when really she's not. Who knows. But everything was good.

When I told him we were going to Colorado next week the first thing he said was, "NO WHITEWATER RAFTING!" I just laughed. Kind of stinks though because the rafting is supposed to be really good this year. Oh well, there will be plenty more Colorado trips when I CAN do that. And of coarse 4 wheel drive trails are out of the question too. I may be blogging a lot while I'm there because pretty much all I can do is walk around town or go fishing. But even a lot of the places we go fishing are places where we have to go on a 4 wheel drive trail or climb rocks and stuff to get to.

I don't care though. The weather there is great. I'll feel SO much better there than in this Texas heat. And even if I'm sitting back a camp a lot, the scenery is beautiful. There's nowhere else I'd rather be if I'm just going to sit and relax and not do much of anything.

Right after vacation I go back in for another sonogram and then for my glucose test. The sonograms are always fun. :)

Best Buy venting

Andy's CD player broke in his truck today and needs to be replaced. We have a 13 hour drive to and from Colorado in a week and a half (probably much longer than that since I'm prego and will have to stop a LOT along the way) so we wanted to get a new cd player/radio for his truck before we leave for vacation.

We first went to Car Toys tonight to look at them and they tried to sell us on the whole touch screen with navigation, ipod hookup, usb plug, XM... the works. Well they had the price of the thing listed, but when Andy asked for a final price with installation and everything, $800 somehow turned into $2100! WOW! How deceiving! They have a sale price, but it more than doubles the cost to install it and to buy all the extra stuff you need to make it actually work! We are absoluely NOT paying that kind of money for something that's just fun and totally not necessary. The kid trying to sell it to us of coarse was very young and said, "Well, it's a really cool thing to have and show off to your friends." Andy and I couldn't help but laugh at that because we are SO not into "living up to the Jones" and buying things just for status or for show.

So we went to Best Buy. We looked at the same radio/navigation system which was for the same price as Car Toys but we wanted to see if the installation would be cheaper there. The guy said it would be $100 for installation and $16 for something else. Sounds great, right? Well the more Andy asked about it, that installation didn't include all the stuff to actually make it work! What good is it to buy a radio with all those frills if it doesn't even work! So then Andy was asking about more details about the thing... in particular, the bluetooth connection so it can automatically connect to your phone and you can talk on your phone through a mic in your car and never even have to touch your actual phone. Pretty cool, right? Well the Best Buy salesman said they don't have the parts you need to install to make the bluetooth work. If we buy it on our own, they can install it, but they don't even cary the product in any Best Buy store. Now, keep in mind that they have the bluetooth capability listed as one of the selling features of the radio but they don't tell you that they don't sell the product that actually makes it work! Craziness!

Andy asked him how or where he could buy it. The salesman didn't know and said he couldn't even tell Andy what the part was called or anything. He had no clue how to help us know where or what to buy to use the bluletooth.

Then Andy asked for a total without the bluetooth connection, "What will I pay when I walk out the door with it if I choose to buy it?" The Best Buy guy's response...."Well, I can't give you a quote because when our installation guy gets in there he usually finds other parts and things you will need to get to make it all work and that will increase the cost." So what he's saying is that you buy a radio for $800 with a $116 installation fee (what he originally said before we asked all the questions.) But when they tear your dashboard all apart to install it, they put other stuff in there and when they finish, your $916 now all of a sudden costs you $1500! Now that they've already torn your dashboard apart and installed it all and you can't really back out and say, "Oh, no. I don't want to spend THAT much on it."

So by this point, I can't help but to just laugh at how rediculous this whole thing is. We go over to look at ipods and told the girl working there about what just happened, kind of laughing about the whole rediculous thing. And she says, "Well, I don't know about that suff, but I'll do my best to help you with the ipods." As soon as we start looking at them her 1st question is, "Will you want to download DVDs to watch on it?" We think about it and tell her, sure, maybe. It's not something we had really thought about but if we can do that, maybe we will. Her response... "Well if you want to do that you have to buy a DVD converter and we don't sell that. I don't know where you can get them. They're kind of a black market thing, but if you can find one, then you can download DVDs to watch." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHAT IS UP WITH BEST BUY!

In the end, I think he's not even going to buy a new radio/cd player at all. He got the ipod so I think he's just going to get the adapter so he can put his cds on the ipod then plug the ipod into the radio to listen to them.

And we thought buying a new radio and cd player for the truck would be a very simple outing. Maybe 30 minutes to pick one out, then get it installed and he would have it in his truck tonight. What were we thinking!

Baby Nursery

Here's our furniture and bedding. I'm so excited to have that put together! You can't tell from the picture, but the solid color squares are chenille and the other is a checkered plaid that has pretty much every baby color in it. The bumper pads are reversible too so they can be yellow or white. And the crib sheet and the lamp are the checkered plaid. The pillow that's laying on the dresser right now is from our wedding. It won't stay on the dresser. I'm not sure where we'll put it, but we'll definately find a good place for it in the nursery. Andy's mom made it for us (the ring bearer's pillow) and she used his grandmother's handkerchiefs on it. There's also a patchwork teddy bear made from the same chenille fabric that's just adorable. I forgot to take a picture of that. We're not done of coarse, but I think we've got a pretty good start. And we still have 16 weeks to finish it all up.
I haven't decided what color I want to paint the room or what kind or curtains I want yet. But we've got the big stuff done and that feels good. It makes it so much more real now to have furniture and bedding set up for her.

Baby sono picutes

Here's one of my 1st good sono pictures of Baby Katie. This was taken at 18 weeks and I'm 24 weeks this Wednesday so she's grown quite a bit since these pictures. This Wednesday I have a doctor appointment. It's funny, but I actually look forward to the doctor visits. And then we get another sono in about 2 weeks!

I've just started really feeling her move for about the last week. We know she's moving in there because at all 4 of my sonograms I've had so far she's been moving all over the place. We're wondering if that's a little hint of how her personality will be when she gets here. If she's anything like I hear Andy was as a kid, we'll have our hands full! HaHa

We're absolutely thrilled and can't wait for her to get here. Several of you out of towners have asked for some pregnant picutres. I'll post them soon. I need to take some 1st. I don't have any that really show my baby belly.

Meet our best friends... Bailey, Chelsea, and Daisy. Yes, 3 dogs and a baby on the way. We've got a full house.Bailey was my 1st pet on my own. I've had him 11 years. I can't image not having him in my life. He's the best cuddle dog. I love it! Everyone tells me that he's the ugliest dog they've ever seen. But I think he's the most adorable dog in the world! Despite his old age, he's still got tons of energy and jumps like he's got springs on his feet.

Chelsea was my 2nd one, she's actually the oldest... 14 years old! We keep thinking she doesn't have much time left, but she just keeps on going. Most of her day is spent sleeping and she can't jump up into the bed or Andy's truck anymore. But she's still going strong.

And then there's Daisy. She's Andy's but I helped him pick her out. She's definately got a unique personality! She's so well behaved. She's a cow dog so she likes to herd the other dogs... especially Chelsea. She's absolutely obsessed! It's funny to watch. She literally stalks Chelsea about 18 hours a day!

Daisy was never much of a cuddle dog with me. She would only cuddle when I called her to me. But since I was about 2 months pregnant she started cuddleing with me on her own all the time. She even jumps up in bed and sleeps as close to me as she can every night now. I think she knows I'm pregnant and is already becoming protective of Baby Katie!

Our First Blog

Welcome to the Knapp blog! Andy and I are expecting our 1st baby this October and what better way to share Baby Katie's gowth and milestones with our out of town loved ones than through a blog. I'm just figuring out what all I can do with this thing. With it being summer and me not working much right now I have plenty of time to play around with it. I can see how this could become very addictive! So check back often for pictures, updates, and changes to our page.
