Katie's First Haircut

I've put it off long enough so today we finally took Katie for her 1st haircut.  I love her long hair and although it was getting a little scraggly, I just didn't want to cut too much off.  I'm sure the pregnancy horemones are the culprit, but I cried when I got off the phone after making her appointment then cried when we got there today while I was taking some "before" pictures.

The place we went was adorable.  Totally for kids.  Katie did great.  She barely said a word until we were completely done.  I don't think she really knew what to think.

The "Before" picture

She was very interested in the little girl getting her hair fixed in the Barbie jeep.

Katie's turn in the Barbie jeep.  It even has a pedal that makes the wheels turn when she steps on it.

She got to watch Dora while she got her hair cut.

We cut about 2 inches off.

Getting "princess briads" in her hair after the cut.

The "After" picture!  I was really happy.  It's still long but looks much healthier.

After the haircut, she went to the party room and got a manicure.  She picked out the sparkle polish and pink nail polish.

They also let her pick out a ring from that bucket next to her.  Of coarse, she went straight for the biggest one in the bucket.  LOL
All done with her new haircut, princess braids, pink sparkly nail polish, 2 rings, and a glitter star on each cheek.

Andy told her how pretty she was then she started saying, "I'm so pretty!"

I have to agree.  I love having a girl!

We finished off our visit with a balloon and sucker.  Yum!  And they kept a lock of her hair in a little baggie for us and gave us a certificate to remember her 1st haircut.  So cute!  I still have a lock of my baby hair in my baby book and Mickie said she has a lock of Andy's baby hair too.

We were right across the street from her favorite "restaurant"... Chick Fil A!  I tried to get a picture of her rings and nails at Chick Fil A but it's a little blurry.  Oh well.  She's down for a nap now.  We had a busy afternoon!

Sewing!

I got a new "fancy" sewing machine for Christmas.  It's digital!  During our many snow days I finally had time to sit down and start playing with it.  Here are a couple of outfits I made for Katie in the last couple of weeks.

This one is reversible.
Side one.

And side two.

I'm also "fancying up" some ponytail holders.  Katie likes to take her bows out of her hair at daycare and church and she loses them.  I'm hoping maybe with these being on ponytail holders she won't lose them as easily.  My sewing machine can do block or manuscript letters and numbers.  I haven't played around with that yet.  I don't think I have many options on the size of the letters but may try to "monogram" Katie's name on her ponytail holders I make.  We'll see how that goes.

I'm out of patterns and cute fabric now.  I guess that means I need to go shopping for more tomorrow.  :)

We have a name...

In just 2 short months, we will welcome Hannah Grace into our family!

We played around with several names but every time I asked Katie if she liked this name or that name, she said "No.  I like Hannah.  I like Abby."  We never mentioned either of those names to her.  Hannah is a friend of hers at school and Abby is from Sesame Street.

My sister, Allison named me after her favorite baby doll and I always loved hearing that story.  I felt so special that my sister named me.  I also "inhereted" the "Amy" baby doll when I was little too.

So I knew I wanted to go with Hannah or Abby so that we can share the story of how Katie named her baby sister and of those 2 names, Andy and I both like Hannah best.  We can now ask Katie who's in mommy's tummy.  She tells us "baby sister" and when we ask her what "baby sister's" name is, she will tell us that her name is "Hannah."

I haven't blogged much about Hannah yet so here's how the pregnancy has gone so far.

This pregnancy has been very different from my pregnancy with Katie.  I was never nauseous with Katie but with Hannah I was slightly nauseous all day long until about week 13.  At about 20 weeks, Hannah decided to lay on my sciatic nerve.  Ouch!  But that gave me an excuse for a prenatal massage.  The 2nd half of the pregnancy has been easier than the 1st half.

I'm finally that very uncomfortable stage.  I struggle to bend over and put on socks or tie my shoes (with Katie at this point it was summer and I wore flip flops every day).  It's hard for me to roll over in bed or get up off the couch.  And I have been getting really bad shooting leg pains at night.  Some nights I'm up every hour with these leg cramps and have to get out of bed and walk around to get them to go away.  I guess that's preparing me for the lack of sleep I'll have with a new baby in the house soon.

I'm so excited for Katie to be a big sister.  I know she's going to be a great big sister.  She's growing up so fast and I know she'll be a big help with Hannah.

Snow 2011

We've had 3 ice days this week with school cancelled and the roads covered.  Our neighborhood kids have been wearing their ice skates and playing ice hockey in the streets.  We probably had a good 2 inches of ice covering the streets and we were all going stir crazy!

Well today we woke up with 5" of snow covering all that ice and had our 4th day in a row of school cancelled.

Today we stayed out in the front yard, but I think tomorrow we'll take her out in the backyard to play.  That's a lot of snow on her slide!
We were finally able to get out of the house to play in the snow and go out for lunch.

Our Big Girl

Katie is growing up so fast.  Every age and stage so far has been "my favorite" and that still continues.  She's learning and doing new things every day.

I love that we can have conversations with her now.  She doesn't just repeat what we say now but she tells us what she's thinking or what she wants.  We give her choices when we can and let her choose what she wants to drink with her meal, or what she wants for snack, etc.  I love picking her up from school and asking about her day.  She tells me "I played with friends" and lists some of the friends she played with.  She tells me "I ate lunch."  "I played with toys."  "I did books."  It's so much fun to hear about her day the way she remembers it.

We're not really trying to potty train yet, but occasionally put her on the potty when she wakes up from her nap and she sometimes goes in the potty.  She likes to tell us she's a big girl and when she goes "tee tee in the potty".

We moved her into her new big girl room and big girl bed a couple of weeks ago and she loves her new room and bed.  She's slept in there great every night and even for her naps.  Her bed is much taller than we expected it to be so we got her a little step stool to get in and out.  She climbs in all by herself but hasn't tried to get out of her bed yet.  When she wakes up she either plays with her baby doll, plays with her taggie, or grabs books from her bedside table and looks at them until we come get her out of bed.  She'll do this for an hour and be perfectly content.

She loves looking at books.  When I got her up from her nap yesterday she started "reading" one of her books.  It's an easy book for her to "read" and is the 1st one I've heard her go through the whole thing so I had to get her to "read her whole book" for the video camera.  Check her out...

If you can't see the video, click here.
She enjoys playing with her baby dolls more now and gives them hugs and kisses all the time.  I can't wait to see her with her little sister.  Only 11 more weeks until my due date.  It's getting so close.  I think Katie will have some jealousy issues.  When Andy gets home or when her friends at school talk to me when I pick her up, she runs over to me, grabs me, and says "MY Mommy!"  So I'm sure she'll have some adjusting to do when baby girl gets here but I know she will LOVE being a big sister and helping out!  It will be so much fun to see her love on baby girl.

Next on the agenda... potty training and getting rid of her paci.  She only uses her paci when she sleeps but for sure by 3 years old I'm hoping to have broken her of that habit.  When the baby comes we will be able to tell her the paci is for babies and she's a big girl.  Hopefully that will help.
