Katie Faith's Birthday

Katie was born at 4:56 today, Wednesday, September 24, 2008. She was 7 lbs 14 oz and 20 inches long. She has lots of brown hair with blond highlights and some curls. I love it! We're so proud to be new parents of a beautiful baby girl. But we're pretty exhausted. We'll get more pictures up soon. So be sure to check back.

Back to October 8th!

Well, I talked to my dr today and I've decided to wait out the pregnancy and try to let it happen on it's own. In our Prepared Childbirth class they said inducing can sometimes lead to c-section which I'm hoping to NOT do. So we're not planning to induce early anymore. If she's not here on her due date... Oct. 8th, then we'll go ahead and induce.

Of coarse, this could all change in the next several weeks as I go to my appointments. If she continues to grow and my dr thinks I may have to have a c-section due to her size, we can always decide at a later date to induce. But for now, I'm going to try to wait until her due date and see if it happens on it's own.

42 days... or less!

I had another sonogram today and everything looks great with baby and me. My fluid retention has gone down from 95th percentile to 60th percentile. That's in the normal range. High-normal, but still normal!

Katie has grown in percentile fro the 74th percentile to the 80th percentile now! She's 5 lbs 2 oz already and measuring ahead of schedule. She's now looking like her due date is more like September 29.

So far, we're still planning to induce on Oct 1st if she's not here yet, but I think my dr feels like she'll be here before that. So that's only 6 weeks or less!

We went to Home Depot tonight and got a fan with a light (and dimmer) for her room and some paint. That's Andy's project this weekend. It's crazy to think time is running out so quickly! I can't wait to see Katie!

Well, I went to the dr yesterday and asked if he expects Katie to come early since she's in the 74th percentile for size, I'm borderline diabetes, and in the 95th percentile for fluid retained... all of which I think can contribute to an early labor. He said he will definately want to get her out of there about a week or week and a half early. So we've set Oct 1 (not the 8th) to induce unless of coarse, something changes between now and then.

I go back in 2 weeks for another sonogram so they'll be able to tell me then if my fluid is gone down and if they're still wanting to induce on Oct 1!

That's only 8 weeks away! I can't believe it's getting so close!

We went to our 1st Prepared Childbirth class last night. That was fun. It's 3 classes. The next one will be really interesting. That's when we're going to really go through the whole labor and delivery process!

Oh yeah, and he said since I'm doing so good with my diabetes diet and my bloodsugar hasn't been high, I don't have to go back to the dietician. I still have to watch my diet and monitor my bloodsugar, but if it goes up (which has only happened after breakfast), I just need to change what I'm eating. But I can kind of monitor that at home rather than going to the dietician (who I didn't like.) I feel 100% better about all that now.

My sister said these pacifiers are always her babies favorites. They use them at the hospital but they're hard to find in the stores. I think she found this at Samplehouse and Candleshop with the stuffed animal attached. Adorable!

My Louisiana Shower

This weekend I went to Louisiana for a baby shower and I had a wonderful time. I got to see lots of friends and family that I haven't seen in a long time. They did some reall cute things for me, Andy, and Katie. They had newborn diapers for people to sign a fun message on for all those stinky diaper changes. They girls did this at my 1st shower too and I love the idea!

On the center of the horsd'ouvre table, they had an adorable stroller pinata for people to write notes for me, Andy, and Katie to read while we wait on her arrival.

And then one of my favorites... my sister-in-law is letting me use her beautiful pink and yellow toile bassinet. I absolutely love it. It can make you cry it's so sweet! She set it up at the shower and that's where they put the gifts.

I can't wait to put everything up in her room. We got SO many gifts! I am so thankful for everyone's generosity. We even got our stroller and car seat!

Good finds!

I went to a consignment sale today and found some really cute stuff. I was amazed at how organized they were! I got several pairs of socks/booties, a pair of newborn mittens, and a few infant hats. I also found this cute giraffe toy. I first saw the blocks and decided to buy them. They have different textures and some of them rattle and stuff. I thought you just stack and build with them or just play with the different textures and sounds. I saw the giraffe by it, but didn't know what it was for so I left that there. When I went to pay for it all, they showed me the giraffe and how it all goes together. The giraffe has a hole in the top and a door on the bottom that opens so Katie can put the blocks in the top and watch them fall through the bottom. It also comes with batteries that I haven't put in yet, but I think it makes sounds.

And my favorite thing I found was the Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal set of 3. I think they're adorable, but even better than that, they are incredibly soft! I wish you could feel them on here! I asked the seller about how much they were used and how to clean them and she said she bought them for party decorations. They sat on a table outside for a party and she's never done anything else with them. So they haven't even been played with or anything. And I got all 3 for just $9!

I've started washing all Katie's stuff to get it all ready for her. I've been washing sheets and boppy covers. And now I'm getting her newborn clothes, hats, and booties, and washrags ready to wash. Then I'm going to start on blankets! I guess I'm starting that "nesting" thing getting ready for her. Her room and things are going to be so clean for her! I've still got 2 1/2 months before she's even here and I go in her room about every other day and just look around to see what I can do in there! LOL I think I'm ready for her.

I don't think I ever posted anything about her movement a few weeks ago, but Andy and I finally saw her move. That was so wierd! We just saw her move a few times one night a couple of weeks ago and not again until today. I saw her for just a few minutes earlier today. I know we'll see more of that as I get further along, but it's so much fun. Andy still hasn't been able to feel her move. She never moves in the exact same spot so wherever I put mine or Andy's hand on my stomach, she either stops moving completely or moves in another spot. Again, I'm sure there will just be more and more of that as I get further along. Fun stuff!

Gestational Diabetes Update

I failed my 1st glucose test and had to go in for the 3 hour glucose test on Monday. I went in today for a sono and follow up visit with my dr. The baby looks great. She was moving around like crazy! I even saw her opening her mouth some. I could see the movement more today than I have been able to with other sonograms. I guess because she's getting bigger. She's 3 lbs 3 oz right now which puts her in the 74th percentile. I got a couple of pretty good pictures. They couldn't put them on CD so I can't post any, but they printed some for me.


My dr said I did pass the 3 hour glucose test so technically I don't have gestational diabetes. Yea! But because my numbers were so high with the 1st hour of the test and I'm still in the 95th percentile for the amount of fluid I'm retaining, he's going to treat me as if I do have gestational diabetes. I have a 2 hour appointment next Wednesday to learn how to change my diet and how to check my bloodsugar. That's really not going to be fun since I hate needles. I'll only have to prick my finger, but that's going to be really hard for me to do the 1st few times I do it. I guess if I'm checking several times a day, I'll get used to it pretty quick.

Although I'm really not looking forward to having to check my bloodsugar so much, I'm glad he's sending me to the class. I could really use something like that to really teach me how to eat healthy. And it's even better that I don't actually have diabetes so it's not as serious as it could be. Hopefully this class will teach me some good changes that I can stick with so I don't end up with diabetes later in life.

Baby Nursery

Andy and I went out looking for a glider last weekend and instead found this great shelf for the nursery. We're going to get some canvas baskets for about helf of the cubbies. We're going to keep all the baby toys and stuffed animals for Katie on the bottom 2 shelves and we'll keep display stuff and things for us (diapers and wipes, etc) close at hand on some of the top shelves. After starting to get stuff we need for her we realized our new dresser and the closet were filling up very fast!

The pillow on the top shelf is from our wedding. Andy's mom made it with both of his grandmother's handkerchiefs. That's what we used for our ring bearer. I love the bear up there too. It's made from the same chenille fabrics as the bedding (and came with all the bedding.) Then I found the picture frame just by chance that's also made from the same chenille fabric as the bedding.

The stuffed animals there are from Andy's mom. A webkinz that's so, so soft and a cute little stuffed butterfly. I was having a hard time finding a mobile to match the bedding until Andy's mom gave us the butterfly. It matched the bedding perfectly. I told her that's what I wanted for a mobile but couldn't find anything like it. That's when she told me she found the butterfly at Pottery Barn Kids and they had mobiles with the same butterflies. Perfect! When I went to look for it they only had one left and it was the one they had used on display so they gave me 30% off! What a deal!

The nursery is really coming together now. Our next big step is deciding what color to paint. I love lavender but there's no lavender in the bedding. I think it would blend well with all the other colors, but I'm not sure yet. Still deciding.

Baby Katie's 1st shower

Some of the girls in my Community Group had a baby shower for me this past Saturday. We had a really good time and I got lots of nice gifts for Baby Katie. Andy, his mom and sister and I had a lot of fun putting it all away in the baby room Saturday night.

We had 4 of us pregnant girls there. Lots of babies coming soon! My sister Allison was due in 1 week (Baby Beck came early... yesterday), Lacey is due in 2 weeks, Angela is due in 3 weeks, then I'm due in 13 weeks! And another one of my best friends is due in 7 weeks. If any of you are trying to get pregnant, come drink the water we're all drinking. HaHa

Baby Update

I had a sonogram with a perinatal dr. on Monday to check her stomach bubble. At my last sono they saw it was empty. That happens regularly and sometimes they just happen to catch it in the sono when it's empty but they wanted me to come back just to make sure it's filling up like it's supposed to. And it is. She's great. He said she's about 2 1/2 lbs now which is apparently slightly big for 6 months. She's in the 67th percentile.

On Wednesday I had my checkup with my regular doctor. Again everything looks great. She's breech right now but it's so early she's still moving all around in there so she has tons of time to turn around.

I'm feeling her kick and move around all the time now. I've felt her a few times from the outside with my hands or arms but just by chance. Anytime I feel her move and then put my hand there she either moves somewhere else or doesn't move anymore. I really want Andy to be able to feel her, but he hasn't been able to yet. I'm sure he will soon.

Tomorrow is my glucose test to see if I have gestational diabetes. I haven't been eating great so I really hope it comes out well.

Baby Update

I had an appointment today and everything was good. I got to hear the heartbeat. That's always fun. And he measured my stomach too. He said the baby is measuring kind of big, but I'm wondering how he knows that's the baby measuring big and not just my stomach. If I'm gaining too much weight, my stomach would get bigger and make it seem like the baby's big when really she's not. Who knows. But everything was good.

When I told him we were going to Colorado next week the first thing he said was, "NO WHITEWATER RAFTING!" I just laughed. Kind of stinks though because the rafting is supposed to be really good this year. Oh well, there will be plenty more Colorado trips when I CAN do that. And of coarse 4 wheel drive trails are out of the question too. I may be blogging a lot while I'm there because pretty much all I can do is walk around town or go fishing. But even a lot of the places we go fishing are places where we have to go on a 4 wheel drive trail or climb rocks and stuff to get to.

I don't care though. The weather there is great. I'll feel SO much better there than in this Texas heat. And even if I'm sitting back a camp a lot, the scenery is beautiful. There's nowhere else I'd rather be if I'm just going to sit and relax and not do much of anything.

Right after vacation I go back in for another sonogram and then for my glucose test. The sonograms are always fun. :)

Baby sono picutes

Here's one of my 1st good sono pictures of Baby Katie. This was taken at 18 weeks and I'm 24 weeks this Wednesday so she's grown quite a bit since these pictures. This Wednesday I have a doctor appointment. It's funny, but I actually look forward to the doctor visits. And then we get another sono in about 2 weeks!

I've just started really feeling her move for about the last week. We know she's moving in there because at all 4 of my sonograms I've had so far she's been moving all over the place. We're wondering if that's a little hint of how her personality will be when she gets here. If she's anything like I hear Andy was as a kid, we'll have our hands full! HaHa

We're absolutely thrilled and can't wait for her to get here. Several of you out of towners have asked for some pregnant picutres. I'll post them soon. I need to take some 1st. I don't have any that really show my baby belly.
